About Me

I am a college student, designer and developer. I am currently employed by the University of Chicago's Computation Institute. Before my current job I worked for my high school's IT department and the University of Chicago's Academic Technologies.

Design

I'm currently studying Industrial Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since middle school I've had an eye for how existing products are shaped (designed) and how I would change them. When I started searching for colleges I discovered the field of Industrial Design. In addition to how products look I like to know how they work. I've taught myself about the latest high-tech materials and how to wire circuitry for microcontrolling. I'm taking Material Science and Mechanical/Industrial Engineering classes to further broaden my knowledge in order to make products that look good and work well. You can see some of my designs and other work in my portfolio.

Development

Since early middle school I played around with AppleScript in and effort to make working with computers easier. In high school, with the announcement of Apple's iPhone, I began learning C to build a good programming basis for learning Objective-C, the language used to write applications for Apple's desktop and mobile platforms. I strive to use my best design and programming knowledge to build beautiful and well-written applications. You can see the iPhone applications I have written in the iPhone section. Before learning to write native applications I spent a long time writing web applications for my own personal uses. Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL I have written countless web applications from simple To-Do lists to an iTunes remote control and instant messaging software.

Platforms

I mainly use Mac OS X as it is has the cleanest, most intuitive user interface that is backed by a UNIX core. I use Linux regularly, but mostly from the command line remotely. I use Windows when I have to.

Tools

Below is a list of some of the applications and programming languages I know, many of which I use daily, to accomplish what I need for design or development.
